In indoor cats—especially male cats—it is quite common to notice frequent trips to the litter box, where the cat strains with great difficulty, often meowing, and passes only a small amount of urine. Sometimes the urine may visibly contain blood. Lethargy and loss of appetite often accompany these signs.
Feline lower urinary tract syndrome can have many causes, but stress—such as a new environment, a new family member, or changes in daily routine—is very often a contributing factor. In addition to targeted medical treatment following proper diagnostics, a long-term solution lies in reducing or eliminating the source of stress.
