What Is Heartworm Disease?

Heartworm disease poses a greater risk to dogs than many people realize. This is clearly demonstrated by the fact that between 2014 and the summer of 2017, our veterinary clinic in Szeged performed approximately 2,500 heartworm screenings within our own patient population.

The infection rate was close to 10%, which is an alarmingly high proportion. Treatment, once a dog becomes infected, is lengthy, complex, and costly.

For this reason, prevention is absolutely essential.

We strongly recommend that pet owners consult our veterinarians about the available preventive options, so they can keep both their family and their beloved pets safe from this serious and potentially life-threatening disease.
