Lyme Disease

Lyme disease is a tick-borne bacterial infection transmitted through the bite of an infected tick.

Symptoms do not appear in every living being, but they can occur in, among others:

  • humans
  • dogs
  • horses

Among humans, some individuals remain symptom-free even after infection.

Those who are less fortunate may experience symptoms depending on the stage of the disease, such as slowly spreading skin redness (Lyme rash), flu-like symptoms, joint inflammation (most commonly affecting the knee or elbow), nervous system involvement, kidney inflammation, or inflammation of the heart muscle.

In infected dogs, symptoms occur in approximately 50% of cases. These may include temporary or recurring joint inflammation and kidney disease.

Prevention is the most important measure—for both dogs and their owners!

Please consult your physician or veterinarian regarding appropriate preventive measures.
