In the previous parts, we explained how to protect your pet’s health and how to groom them. Now we continue with the third part:
III. Feed Your Pet Properly!

1. Understand your pet’s dietary requirements!
High-quality nutrition is the foundation of good health and one of the secrets to a long life.
For dogs, eating is not primarily a culinary pleasure, but a way of meeting their energy needs.
The frequency of feeding and the amount of food depend on your pet’s age and size. If you are unsure about how to feed your dog, consult your veterinarian!
In general:
- Adult dogs usually do well with one meal per day.
- The correct portion size depends on body weight, activity level, and current health status.
- Pet food packaging typically includes a feeding chart indicating the recommended daily amount based on body weight.
Here too, the rule applies: less is often more.
Dogs under one year of age require more frequent feeding. Puppies aged 8–12 weeks may need up to four meals a day, using food specifically formulated for puppies.
2. Make sure your pet always has fresh water!
Dogs need plenty of water every day. During physical activity or in warmer weather, they may drink even more than usual.
Always provide your pet with a bowl of fresh water that is easily accessible. Refill it when it starts to run low, and change the water several times a day.
3. Reward your pet for good behavior!
Rewarding your dog is a great way to show care and reinforce positive behavior. Good behavior or a well-performed task can be rewarded with a treat, such as a dog biscuit.
However, be consistent and avoid spoiling your pet. The best approach is to use treats as rewards for completed tasks. Always remember to count treats as part of your dog’s daily food allowance.
